Cool Job: Chief Formulation Officer Eric Butler

Cool Job: Chief Formulation Officer Eric Butler

Eric Butler creates all-natural energy sodas with ingredients such as burnt sugarcane extract, raw Washington honey, kola nuts and guarana seeds. (Eric’s Energy Co.)

What do you do? I am the founder and CFO (chief formulation officer) for Eric’s Energy Co. (a small all-natural beverage company in Mill Creek). I create the recipe for each custom formulation that bears the Eric’s name.

How did you start? It started with a quest to find the energy I needed without upsetting my sensitive stomach, back around my football-playing days as a Husky. That’s what led to (an energy) soap and then to the energy sodas.

What’s the best part of the job? Being able to use my creativity to deliver a final product that people can feel good about and enjoy. It’s always a thrill walking into a grocery store like QFC and seeing an Eric’s Famous on the shelves!

What would surprise people about your job? How difficult it is to create great tasting, all-natural energy products, but we seem to pull it off. Also, how easy it is to create an opportunity to do what you love — as long as you’re willing to risk it all!

What an awesome concept. Eric's energy cola is not only yummy, but it gives you just the right amount of energy. I love that they use glass bottles, local products and stay on the natural side to create their tantalizing energy drinks.
