Cool Job: Shana Iverson, The High Priestess of Rubber Chickens
The novelty of Shana Iverson’s job at Archie McPhee hasn’t worn off. (Courtesy of Archie McPhee)
What do you do? My title is The High Priestess of Rubber Chickens. I manage and select all the products for the store (Archie McPhee in Wallingford), I am a manager of our wholesale business, and I am involved in product development.
How long have you been doing that? Twenty years!
How did you get that job? I used to be a waitress, a museum tour guide and a clock maker, so I think it is a natural progression.
Best part of the job? I have a passion for our sassy products, customers and the people I work with. We share a strange vision that involves squirrel underpants, yodeling pickles and pink mustaches for girls. I love having serious conversations about the ship date for tentacle mustaches, the taste of bacon toothpaste, and how rubbery narwhal horns should be.
One of the best things that happens is when we have impacted people’s lives through our products. Not only have we been a part of endless desk displays, art projects, car accessories and birthdays, but we have also played a part in many weddings and even some funerals.
What would surprise people about your job? How hard we work to get nonsense to the people!
