Cool Job: Social media manager Evonne Benedict @king5seattle
What do you do? I am the social media manager for KING 5 TV and KING5.com. Part of my job is to post news to Twitter and Facebook, but even more important is using social media to build our community and listen to their stories. That means I’m a journalist, a customer service rep, a cruise director, a coach, sometimes even a therapist.
How does someone else get a job like yours? I got my job by doing it. I was working as a writer/editor at KING 5 and started running the social media accounts on the side. I did this for a couple years, and last fall, my job was officially created. Advice to others: If you love your company and you love your audience (or customers), just do it!
Best part of the job? The relationships I’ve developed with our viewers/readers (now our friends), both online and in real life. I try to do “in real life” at least once a week with people I originally met online.
What surprises people about your job? One of my job requirements is to have fun. And thanks to [viewers and readers], I do every day.
