Curators oversee museums' research, instructional and public outreach efforts
Outlook: Employment of curators is expected to increase 20 percent over the 2008-18 decade, faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 160 curators in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $60,370 in 2008.
The job: Curators administer the affairs of museums and conduct research programs. They also direct the instructional, research and public service activities of those institutions.
Training/licensing: For employment as a curator, most museums require a master’s degree in an appropriate discipline of the museum’s specialty -- art, history or archaeology -- or in museum studies.
