Database administrators determine ways to organize and store information
Outlook: Employment of database administrators is expected to increase 37 percent over the 2006-16 decade, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 2,140 database administrators in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $76,290 in 2008.
The job: Database administrators work with database management systems software and determine ways to organize and store data. They also test and coordinate modifications to the system when needed, and troubleshoot problems when they occur.
Training/licensing: For database administrator positions, most employers seek applicants who have bachelor’s degrees in computer science, information science or management information systems.
