What do you do? I am a food photographer, with a particular passion for documenting how food goes from the farm to the kitchen to the table. I shoot for chefs, farms, cookbooks and magazines, and also teach food photography and farm-to-table workshops.
What's a typical day like? It's always different. Sometimes I am on location taking photos of a chef in the kitchen. Other days, I am in my studio shooting recipes for a cookbook. Some days I am taking photos of cows and pigs. The variety is what keeps it fun!
How does someone get a job like yours? Like most jobs, it's about practice and experience. Become the best photographer you can be and learn how to tell a story with your images. And then network, network, network!
What's the best part of your work? I love that every job is different and there are new expectations of me. It keeps me on my toes and challenges me. Plus, I am humbled by the fact people hire me for my vision and creativity. I enjoy what I do so much, it rarely feels like work.
What surprises people about your work? I think sometimes people are surprised that it's an actual job.
