Epidemiologists develop ways to prevent or control the spread of disease
Outlook: Employment of epidemiologists is expected to increase 15 percent over the 2008-18 decade, faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 170 epidemiologists in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $66,320 in 2008.
The job: Epidemiologists investigate and describe the causes and spread of disease, and develop ways to prevent or control disease.
Training/licensing: A master’s degree from a school of public health is required. Research positions often require a Ph.D or medical degree.
