Pay: The 710 home-appliance repairers in the Seattle-Bellevue Tacoma area in 2007 earned a median wage of $18.09 an hour or $37,630 a year, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The job: Home-appliance repairers do both installation and repair. Some work on small items such as microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners. Others specialize in items such as refrigerators, dishwashers, washers and dryers, and window air-conditioning units. Those who work with major appliances will drive to and from appointments and emergency calls.
Demand: Very good job opportunities are expected, with openings continuing to outnumber job seekers.
Training: Most entry-level workers learn on the job, although employers prefer those who have completed programs in electronics or appliance repair offered in technical schools or community colleges.

With people trying to save as much money right now they are turning to appliance repair more and more. You are right, this is a great field to be in right now!

The job isn't that easy. You constantly run into people who don't value your knowledge and want something for free. No one likes to have their appliances repaired, and when they call you out, they already have a bad taste in their mouths. Just be ready to deal with cheap people.
