How to boost your self-confidence

Q: With the arrival of 2012, I am looking for ways to improve myself.

Like every person I know, I have my strengths and weaknesses. One thing I would like to improve is my confidence.

How can I become more confident in myself in the New Year?

A: The New Year is always a great time to set new career goals.

You can build off the success that you had in the previous year or get a fresh start if one is necessary. One thing that remains important is that you maintain a positive attitude.
Here are some tips that you can use to make sure that 2012 begins with confidence.

Self-acceptance. Focus on the positive qualities, strengths, and traits that make you who you are.

Self-respect. Look at your past successes and achievements and respect yourself for the good you have done.

You may alo benefit from creating a success inventory, a list of success and accomplishments you have had throughout your life.

Self-talk. Play both sides of the debate internally to create an argument that holds up to scrutiny.

The stronger and more compelling your evidence is, the more believable and powerful the message. This tool is used to take back control of the only thing we should have ultimate control over, our thinking.

Risk-taking. Approach new experiences as an opportunity to learn rather than occasions to win or lose.

Doing this will open you to new possibilities and can increase your sense of self-acceptance.

I like that you put "self respect" as a way to raise your self confidence. Too many people forget the importance of respecting themselves.
