Jobs in Demand: Chiropractors
Outlook: Employment of chiropractors is expected to increase 20 percent over the 2008-18 decade, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 390 chiropractors in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $87,740 in 2008.
The job: These professionals diagnose and treat patients with health problems of the musculoskeletal system. Many treatments deal specifically with the spine and manipulation of the spine. Chiropractors provide drugless, nonsurgical treatments and consider exercise, diet, rest and other factors that may affect a patient’s health.
Training: must be licensed, which requires two to four years of undergraduate education, the completion of a four-year chiropractic college course and passing scores on national and state exams.
