Jobs in demand: manicurists
Outlook: Employment of manicurists is expected to increase 19 percent over the 2008-18 decade, faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 940 manicurists in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $20,810 in 2009.
The job: These professionals work with clients to provide manicures, pedicures, polishing and nail extensions. They work in clean, pleasant surroundings but may wear aprons or gloves to protect themselves from exposure to nail chemicals. Many work flexible schedules.
Training: Training at cosmetology schools prepares candidates for testing for a license.
