Pay: The 10,410 groundskeepers in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $13.08 an hour or $27,210 a year in 2007, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The middle 50 percent earned between $22,410 and $34,240.

The job: Grounds workers can be divided into landscaping and groundskeeping workers, depending on whether they mainly install new landscape elements or maintain existing ones, but duties of planting, watering and mowing often overlap. They work on athletic fields, golf courses, cemeteries, university campuses and parks, as well as homes and other businesses such as office buildings and shopping malls. It can be physically demanding. Many jobs are seasonal, with no work in winter.

Demand: Opportunities should be very good. Employment is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations.

Training: Short-term on-the-job training generally is sufficient. A driver's license is often required.

Thanks for the pricing information. I own my own landscaping business in western New York and our prices seem to be on a par with yours. We have the same type of fruit trees as you do in Washington so I can only assume everything else is similar as well.
