Market and survey researchers use various methods to find out what people think
Outlook: Employment of market and survey researchers is expected to increase 28 percent over the 2008-18 decade, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 124 market and survey researchers in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $48,600 in 2008.
The job: Workers use the Internet, telephone, focus groups, mail responses and other information-gathering methods to collect information about what people think. They can work for a variety of clients, including corporations, government agencies and political candidates. Most of the detail-oriented work is done under the pressure of a deadline.
Training/licensing: A bachelor’s degree related to mathematics, marketing, computer science or business is sufficient for entry-level jobs. A master’s degree is needed for more technical positions.
