My First Job: Bert Markovich, shareholder
|
Current position: Shareholder in Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt.
First job: Working as a cook on a tugboat based in Oregon.
How I got the job: I met a man who offered to put in a good word for me for a cook position on a tugboat. Despite my extreme lack of cooking skills, I ended up getting the job. My hard work won him over and he agreed I could stay.
What I learned: Besides mastering the basics of cooking eggs, I learned that new and unfamiliar experiences indefinitely shape us. Since I was a kid from Montana who grew up without seeing the ocean, I find it ironic that I am now a maritime attorney. I think we surprise ourselves and often find that we learn the most from the experiences farthest from our intended path.
