My First Job: Deb Eddy, senior associate
|
Current position: Senior associate, PRR, a communications, marketing, public-relations, design and public-affairs consultancy, with offices in Seattle and Washington, D.C.
First job: For two summers during high school, I worked in the dining hall at the state 4-H camp in West Virginia. It was hard work, beginning at 5.30 a.m. and running easily until 6.30 p.m. We did food preparation, assisted the cooks, served and cleaned up after as many as 500 campers.
What I learned: It turned out to be a great learning experience, especially about teamwork and deadlines. Although we all thought the dining-hall manager was a bit of a shrew, we respected her because she rewarded hard work and sent the slackers home. She managed to convey a pride in what we were doing.
