My First Job: Diane Kolb, executive director
|
Current position: Executive director, Children's Country Home, an eight-bed, nonprofit home that provides 24-hour skilled care to medically fragile and technology-dependent children who need long-term, respite, transitional and end-of-life care.
First job: Starting at 11 years old, I baby-sat after school, weekends and summers.
What I learned: I cherished the opportunity to have my own spending money through my own efforts. Having to work enabled me to better distinguish between what I really wanted and what was just a passing fancy. Having my own resources empowered me to make my own choices and live with them. Every young person should enjoy the privilege of working. Working with children has taught me to grab life with both hands and enjoy. You can always make time to play!
