My First Job: Dr. Dawn Hunter, clinical director and owner

Dr. Dawn Hunter

Current position: Clinical director and owner of Medifit Health Clinic in Seattle, providing chiropractic kinesiology, massage therapy and personal body retraining and conditioning.

First job: Selling purebred puppies and kittens at a pet store in San Diego.

How I got the job: I was shopping in the mall and saw the display window full of chubby white Persian kittens and went inside to see them. The manager came up wearing a white "doctor" coat, talked to me about the place and hired me on the spot.

What I learned: I sold a Dalmatian puppy to a family with two young children. A week later they came back with him very distraught as they told me that the puppy was deaf, which can happen in the Dalmatian breed. The children were crying and the parents were just beside themselves. I talked with them for over an hour and I found them a dog school that taught deaf dogs and owners sign language. The family was so relieved to keep their beloved "Buster." They all walked out of the store beaming. I learned that a little extra step can make a big difference in someone's life. I keep my eye out for "Busters."
