My First Job: Graham Haight, executive vice president and chief lending officer
|
Current position: Executive vice president and chief lending officer of Mountain Pacific Bank, a startup full-service community bank in Everett.
First job: I scooped ice-cream cones and made shakes at Husky Delicatessen, a multigeneration business in West Seattle. Duties also included stocking shelves and helping make the ice cream.
How I got the job: I visited the store once a week for several years to buy milk in glass bottles for our large family. Once I was old enough to work, I asked for a job. I worked after school, on weekends and during the summer months.
What I learned: I learned to balance my personal preference of giving the customer large portions with the needs of the business to make a profit. Everyone likes ice cream, which meant I served people from all walks of life. This was an invaluable experience in itself.
