My First Job: Gynger Steele, admissions adviser
|
Current position: Admissions adviser, Pima Medical Institute Seattle. In admissions, I work with students to map out a career path by evaluating strengths, desire and passion. My reward for doing what I do is the pride felt on Graduation Day.
First job: Worked for the state of Iowa at a greyhound park as a "lead-out."
This position consisted of parading the greyhounds for the crowd, leading them to the starting gate and placing them in their respective starting boxes. Later, I graduated to a position in quality assurance by assuring that the correct greyhounds were racing. This consisted of checking identification tattoos in their ears. At one point, I operated the bone (lure) that the greyhounds chased after exiting their starting boxes.
How I got the job: My best friend from high school got a job and told me about it. Two weeks later I worked there too!
What I learned: That I love animals, that college was a necessity and that teamwork and camaraderie are important in all arenas of life.
