My First Job: Kent Grimes, president and CEO

Current position: President and CEO of Scan Design, a Bellevue-based chain of furniture stores.
First job: Salesman at Nordstrom.
How I got the job: I walked into the Nordstrom at Aurora Village, asked for a job and grew with the company over 28 years, rising to the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Nordstrom product group.
What I learned: To take care of the customer. It is so important to treat the store environment like your home and dispel the notion of selling while growing the notion of building a relationship. This creates a relationship that generates long-term business and customer satisfaction.
