My First Job: Lyn Miletich, director of community relations
|
Current position: Director of community relations for Providence Hospice of Seattle.
First job: Stockperson at B. Altman and Co., a department store in New York City
How I got the job: My mother worked in sales in the lingerie department. The company had a preference for hiring relatives of employees, though I formally interviewed with HR to qualify for the job.
What I learned: Responsibility, dependability, and how to be a valued employee so I could qualify for a sales position as soon as I turned 18. Most important, I learned at a young age the value of customer-service skills, which are so important in the position I hold today.
