My First Job: Patricia Szabo, executive director
|
Current position: Executive director, Providence O'Christmas Trees, an annual holiday event (Nov. 30) to celebrate caring services that enhance the lives of those in need through health care, housing and hospice.
First job: Clerk in a neighborhood pharmacy.
How I got the job: My family lived in the neighborhood and did business in the pharmacy. Of all the teenagers on my block, I was the most driven (I was 14 ), so I was exactly what they were looking for a kid to work weekends and evenings for 48 cents an hour! It was 1966.
What I learned: I worked at the pharmacy until I graduated from high school. I came away with a keen work ethic, excellent customer-service skills, and the knowledge that creating a relationship with the customer is key to consumer loyalty. Today I use those very same skills, a bit honed and polished, to help me build relationships in the community and in my fund-raising efforts for Providence O'Christmas Trees.
