My First Job: Sandra Cook, convention sales manager
|
Current position: Convention sales manager for the Bellevue Convention Sales Group, which represents the Eastside, its hotels and the Meydenbauer Center.
First job: Sales representative at Budget Car Rental in Mazatlán, Mexico. I was in college trying to get a bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management and this was "industry" related. I took reservations, did all the sales processing and managed the fleet.
How I got the job: I was bilingual and they needed an English-speaking person at their main office in Mazatlán. This was during my first year of college and money was never enough so I decided to look for a job related to what I was studying.
What I learned: A lot of sales techniques and how to do business with multicultural personalities. I had the opportunity to work with people who had many years of sales experience who were patient enough to teach me their ways to succeed.
