Political scientists frequently work as policy analysts
Outlook: Employment of political scientists is expected to increase 21 percent over the 2008-18 decade, faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 110 political scientists in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $61,850 in 2008.
The job: These professionals study the origin, development and operation of political systems. They research a wide range of subjects, such as relations between the United States and foreign countries. A political scientist might analyze a public-opinion survey, study election results or public documents or interview public officials. Many forecast political, social and economic trends. They frequently work as policy analysts for government or in labor, political or professional organizations.
Training: A post-baccalaureate degree is required for the majority of positions.
