Registered nurses play role in patient's medical team throughout treatment
Outlook: Employment of registered nurses is expected to increase 23 percent over the 2006-16 decade, much faster than the average for all occupations.
Pay: The 29,940 registered nurses in the Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma area earned a median wage of $74,880 in 2008.
The job: Registered nurses record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation.
Training/licensing: The three major educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree and a diploma from an approved nursing program.
