What This Job Pays: computer programmer
Salary: The average pay for a computer programmer in the Seattle area is $84,912, with most making about $72,000 to $100,000 a year, according to figures compiled by PayScale, a Seattle company that tracks compensation and benefits. For programmers with at least 10 years of experience, the average pay is $93,251, with most making $80,250 to $105,000 a year, according to PayScale.
Demand: Employment of programmers is expected to grow more slowly than the average for all occupations through the decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Sophisticated computer software, the bureau says, now has the capability to write basic code, eliminating the need for many programmers to do this routine work.
