What This Job Pays: diesel mechanic
Pay: The median pay of a diesel-engine mechanic is about $17 an hour, with most making from about $11 to about $26 an hour, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Demand: Employment of diesel mechanics is expected to increase about as fast as the average for all occupations in the coming years. Besides openings resulting from employment growth, opportunities will be created by the need to replace workers who retire or transfer to other occupations and the growth of diesel-fueled automobiles because of high gas prices.
