Pay: The average pay for a registered nurse in the Seattle area is $27.63 an hour, with most making from $21.56 to $37 an hour, according to PayScale, a Seattle company that tracks compensation and benefits.
Demand: Registered nurses are projected to create the second largest number of new jobs among all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Job opportunities in most specialties and employment settings are expected to be excellent, with some employers reporting difficulty in attracting and retaining enough RNs.
Need to know: Registered nurses constitute the largest health-care occupation, with 2.4 million jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. About three out of five jobs are in hospitals. Others worked in offices of physicians, nursing-care facilities, home health-care services, employment services, government agencies and outpatient care centers. The three major educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree or a diploma from an approved nursing program.
