Demand: Employment of urban and regional planners is expected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations through 2014.
Need to know: Local governments employ seven out of 10 urban and regional planners, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most entry-level jobs require a master's degree; bachelor's degree holders may find some entry-level positions, but advancement opportunities are limited.
