You'd be an idiot to risk your job not taking the promo these days. Happened to me. Hired as contractor scientist (stimilus job, no bennies, no vac., no sick, etc.). Within 2 mos. the group lead quit, leaving group with no experienced personnel. I was asked to lead group, with no change in contract. I told them if they made a lead position for me I would gladly do it. They declined, and when I refused job, they terminated me that day, hired someone else in the lead position. No severence, no work for over 1 year now......
