Friday is Take Back Your Time Day

I love that Seattle is the birthplace of Take Back Your Time, an initiative that aims to get Americans to work less and smell the roses a little more -- and employers and government policies to make doing so a bit more feasible. I love it so much that this summer I wrote about TBYT's efforts to lobby Congress for a paid vacation policy for all U.S. workers.
Vying for all workers to get at least three weeks' paid vacation seems a bit quaint now, considering how many of us are losing our jobs and would just settle for three weeks' paid work at this point. But I do think the idea of slowing down and living more simply won't go out of style any time soon.
And since today happens to be Take Back Your Time Day, I thought I'd risk sounding like one of those chain letters my mom's always emailing me and suggest that this weekend you (a) stop answering your cell phone while on the john, even if just for one day, (b) see if you can take a sabbatical from checking email for at least eight hours -- yes, consecutive ones, (c) enjoy at least one meal with a date, friend, or family member, or (d) indulge in the comfort food/activity of your choice, be it a grilled cheese sandwich, a bubble bath, or a nap.
