Time to reinvent your career? Two events that can help
NWjobs
Who better to give advice on career change than someone who's been there, done that -- and that, and that, and that, and that?
Over the course of 40 years, local author and greeting card designer Karen Burns has held 59 jobs and has worked in 22 cities and four countries -- many of which she's documented in her new book, "The Amazing Adventures of Working Girl: Real Life Career Advice You Can Actually Use."
Burns' book is brimming with tips and encouragement for disgruntled workers, job seekers and career changers, from those who hate their boss but aren't sure they should jump ship in this economy to those who are more than ready for a change but haven't a clue which shiny new career path might suit them best. (Book review here.)
To hear Burns' sage career advice in person, head on over to Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park tonight at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
And for those of you looking to get a leg up the tech sector, check out the second annual Women Who Tech TeleSummit on Tuesday, May 12, which you can attend by phone or Web.
Though the aim of the event is to help women advance in the high-tech world, men can benefit from this virtual conference too. Some of the juicy panels on the schedule: Launching Your Own Startup, Innovation and Tech Career Reinvention, Tech Marketing in a Recession, and Social Media ROI. (Complete panel list here.)
Registration for the event is a mere $10. Even better, you can attend in your pajamas.
