Job Search: Make a full day of it

NWjobs

Most days, job seekers work a full day creating their own schedule, planning a list of phone calls, doing research on employers and attending networking events. Tomorrow, however, several area employment specialists have a busy day all planned out for you in advance--most of it for free.

June 23 will be one of those days when the stars happen to align to provide job searching and networking events practically around the clock. Here's a quick schedule of some of the many events that will take place from morning till night to help you find a job:

10:00 to 11:00 a.m.: ProLango's Resume Writing Seminar 2.0 - Career psychology consultant Paul Anderson provides useful tips about how to make sure your resume gets placed at the top of the list by today's commonly used, automated resume software. Learn about common misconceptions about resumes, the importance of personal branding, and the most important elements to include in your resume and cover letter. For more information on other seminars held this week on career search and interviewing tips, visit the ProLango Web site. Location: Thinkspace, 8201 164th Ave NE, Suite 200, Redmond. Cost: Free (for limited time only).

11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Seattle Career Fair - Once you've received some instruction above, come to this job fair at the Seattle Center to learn about the latest local employment opportunities. Dozens of employers are scheduled to attend, with information on nearly 100 positions in the accounting, customer service, administration, finance, technology, sales, warehouse and transportation sectors. Visit Choice Career Fairs for more information. Location: Seattle Center's Northwest Rooms, First Ave. N. and Republican St. Cost: Free.

After a long day of learning new skills and meeting with employers, there are plenty of options that same evening to unwind while you continue to hone your networking skills:

5:00 to 8:00 p.m.: Biznik's Happy-Hour Mixer - Come mingle and relax at Biznik's monthly get-together in Fremont, hosted by co-founders Dan McComb and Lara Eve Feltin. This "recession-friendly" event (e.g. BYOB) will bring together some of Seattle's top small business talent. Find out more details about Biznik's Shine film project, which depicts the stories of local entrepreneurs and how they overcame obstacles. Location: Fremont Studios, 155 N. 35th St. Cost: Free.

6:00 p.m.: nPost Networking and Startup Demo Event - For those in the technology field, this meeting in Columbia City will help introduce you to some of the newest tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and angel investors. For a list of the more than 170 attendees that are scheduled to attend, visit the nPost tech startup community. Location: Columbia City Theater, 4916 Rainier Ave. S. Cost: Free.

6:00 to 8:30 p.m.: Seattle Job Social - This monthly, informal networking event, held in Belltown, will include representatives from more than 30 local firms. Mix and mingle with recruiters in the fields of finance, accounting, marketing, legal, communications, software development, hardware systems and a wide range of technical backgrounds. Send RSVPs and resume submissions to invite@SeattleJobSocial.com or visit the Seattle Job Social Facebook page for more information. Location: Twist, 2313 First Ave. Cost: $5 admission fee.
