Last chance to sign up for free resume course

NWjobs

Late last month, I wrote about an exclusive offer for a free resume-writing course by communications expert Rod Mattson of Mattson Communication. For the first 10 Hire Ground readers who sign up for the two-hour workshop by the end of tomorrow, July 8, Mattson says he will waive the usual $40 fee ($50 at the door).

While Mattson's generous offer still stands, the date has changed. Instead of July 14, as I wrote before, the course has been moved forward by two weeks to Wed., July 29. The location of the seminar is also the same: the Best Western Emerald Suites Hotel in Federal Way. The same workshop will be held at three different times: 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The seminar, titled Nobody Can Write Your Resume Better Than You, will focus not on how to write "the perfect resume" for all occasions, but how to customize each resume you send to meet the needs of specific employers. "You may have all the right skills and knowledge that prospective employers are looking for," Mattson says. "But are you sure you're getting this message across to them in an effective way? This course will show you how to make your accomplishments really stand out."

In this workshop, he says, participants will learn how to build and categorize a database of more than 100 "accomplishment statements" and how to adapt them to various job descriptions. Just as important, he will discuss what not to put on resumes and how to use powerful language that creates interest.

Better get this free offer while you can. Depending on the success of this July 29 resume workshop, Mattson says he may switch the emphasis of his company toward his core business of public speaking seminars and general communications training. "Statistically, I can improve their chances of finding a job from 4 to almost 80 percent," he says. "I lay that out in the first few minutes; however, it takes work."
