Seattle Job Social moves to Columbia Tower

NWjobs

The monthly Seattle Job Social event is movin' on up. To a de-luxe apartment in the sky. Well, actually the Columbia Tower Club to be precise, so that's about as high as you can go in this town.

After spending the last few months at the Twist restaurant and lounge in Belltown, one of Seattle's newest and most popular networking events has moved this month to the 76th floor of the Columbia Tower on Fifth Avenue. Tomorrow, Aug. 20, the next Seattle Job Social will run from 6-9 p.m. and will include representatives from more than 30 local firms.

Job Social co-founder Michael Michaels, who is also business development manager at sponsoring recruiting firm VerticalMove, says that previous events averaged about 150 attendees. To date, he says, an estimated total of 100 people have said they have found jobs as a direct result of the Seattle Job Social events.

Most of the recruiters at tomorrow night's event will be looking for people to fill positions in finance and accounting, marketing, communications/public relations, software development and hardware systems, Michaels says. There will also be companies looking for attendees with various technical and legal backgrounds as well, he adds.

"Since Seattle Job Social is a networking event, not a job fair, we encourage you to mingle among the crowd and socialize with people," Michaels told attendees in an invitation e-mail. "The recruiters will wear pre-printed name badges with their company names so you can identify them."

To help cover basic costs for the nonprofit group, the Job Social will charge a $5 cover fee and will include finger foods at the event. To sign up, you must first RSVP and submit your resume at the Job Social's Facebook registration page. I hope to see you there.

Why do these announcements always seem to come out on the day of, or the day before, the event?

First of all the 100 people getting jobs is quite an overstatement. That would mean with their attendance history over 20/30 people getting jobs at each event.

As the attendance of companies has been 15 not 30, and the overall attendance dropping due to long lines similar to job fairs, I'm not sure how much longer this group will be in business.
