NWjobs
Many workers this weekend are enjoying a three-day holiday weekend to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But for those on the job hunt, there is no such thing as a holiday. Luckily, during this short work week, there are plenty of networking events and career workshops to choose from to help develop your list of contacts.
Tues., Jan. 19 -- Get Back to Work Sooner. Career consultant Steve Grisham of CareerZoomer is holding an hour-long informational workshop to discuss his multi-layered approach to searching for a job. Techniques to be discussed include networking, volunteering, temporary employment, social networking, resume key words, self-initiated value proposition letters and interviewing tips. Where: Northshore YMCA in Bothell. When: 7 to 8 p.m. Cost: $5.
Thurs., Jan. 21 -- Seattle Career Fair. Choice Career Fairs is back for another chance for you to meet face-to-face with hiring managers from dozens of employers looking to fill more than 80 job titles in the greater Seattle area. To avoid long lines, pre-register on the company's Web site. Where: Seattle Center's Northwest Rooms. When: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost: Free.
Thurs., Jan. 21 - NWIAG Winter Event. For those looking for positions in the growing field of online advertising, the Northwest Internet Advertising Group will hold its winter networking event, sponsored and hosted by video ad firm Eye Wonder. Where: The Spectator Sports Bar in Lower Queen Anne. When: 5 to 9 p.m. Cost: Free, but NWAIG membership is required (also free).
Sat., Jan. 23 -- Fierce Job-Hunting Workshop. The "Let's Get Connected" job-support group will host a one-time-only presentation by career marketing coach Mark Hovind, president of placement firm JobBait. Hovind, who specializes in finding positions for those with 6- and 7-figure incomes, will share his secrets with job-seekers of any income bracket and provide advice on how to find the decision-makers who are most likely to hire you.
