ProLango offers three new free job seminars for 2010

For much of the last year, I've been in touch with Paul Anderson, founder of career development firm ProLango Consulting, about the various job-seeker workshops and seminars he runs in the area. His energy is infectious, and his focus on mastering the psychological aspects of job hunting is fascinating, so I could never figure out why his always-popular free seminars seemed to fly under the media radar.
Just last month, in fact, I had to nod in agreement when he wrote in one of his many Facebook posts, "I'm tired of being a well-kept secret. It's time people know what we're doing for the community/job seekers."
Well, Paul, there's nothing like results to spread the word. After helping more than 1,500 people find jobs in the Seattle area last year, ProLango is starting off 2010 with a bang. Last night, Anderson held his first Career Mixer of the year at Maggiano's Little Italy in Bellevue, attracting more than 400 registrants. This morning, his company is offering the first of three new one-hour seminars to help you take control of your job search.
All of the new seminars are held in two locations--at Bellevue Place in Bellevue in the morning and at Union Square's Training Rooms in Seattle in the afternoon--and will be sponsored by AXA Advisors LLC. All three events are free to attend, but registration is required.
Career Search Optimization - "Since 85 percent of positions are found through in-person networking, we've designed this course to emphasize the best practices of networking," Anderson says. The seminar also goes behind the scenes of the hiring world and explains how applicant tracking systems and customer relationship management (CRM) systems work. Find out what not to do at networking events and how to stay of corporate hiring "blacklists." When: Tues., Feb. 9, in Bellevue, 10 to 11:30 a.m., and Mon., Feb. 15, in Seattle, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Resume Search Optimization - "A well written resume in today's job market won't do any good if it's never read," Anderson says. "With an average of 900 resumes per position, we've designed this course to make sure you know how resumes are being scanned and what you need to do to optimize them." Learn why recruiters aren't reading your resume, how a professionally written resume can actually hurt your chances and how outplacement providers can cost you opportunities. When: Thurs., Feb. 11, in Bellevue, 10 to 11:30 a.m., and Wed., Feb. 17, in Seattle, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Advanced Interviewing - You've probably got the basics of interviewing down pat. Now it's time to get serious. "Hiring happens emotionally not logically," Anderson says. "You need to know how to build solid rapport and speak the hiring manager's language in order to get them to like you." This course, he adds, will teach you how people think and tailor your presentation to the personality of the interviewer. When: Fri., Feb. 12, in Bellevue, 10 to 11:30 a.m., and Fri., Feb. 19, in Seattle, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
