Support your local library, find job-search tips

NWjobs

It's a holiday weekend, time to relax, recharge and prepare for another week of job hunting. You'll need the rest because, even with this short work week, the summer season of job-search seminars and networking events is kicking into high gear.

As I've seen in the event calendars in recent weeks, one of the best resources out there continues to be your local library, which can provide a plethora of free useful information about job-hunting. Each week, there are also usually workshops about practical job-search techniques, often with guest speakers. This coming week looks to be a great time to check out these often-underused facilities all around the Sound. Get out there and put your tax dollars to work!

TUE., JUNE 1

Creating an Effective Resume (Parts 1 & 2) - In this two-part seminar, career coach Edryce Reynolds will go over the basics of what South Sound job seekers need to know to create a stand-out resume. This week, "Warm-up to Resume Creation" will discuss possible resume layouts and identification of skills. Next Tuesday, "Easy Resumes on the Computer" will be a hand-on session in which participants will build their own resumes. Where: Tacoma Public Library, Tacoma. When: 1 to 3 p.m., June 1 & 8. Cost: Free, but RSVP required and space is limited!

PRforPeople Happy Hour - If it's the first of the month, it must be time for another happy hour for local entrepreneurs, hosted by Patricia Vaccarino. This month, the guest speaker will be Julie K. Clark, founder of SharedBusinessSpace.com, an online directory of shared office space locations. Where: Rock Salt, Seattle. When: 4 to 6:30 p.m. Cost: Free.

WED., JUNE 2

Create a Career - Bob Rosner, a best-selling author of "Working Wounded," will host this interactive discussion about key strategies that job seekers must use to find work in the current market. Audience members will be able to take part in live polls and offer their own advice in a Q&A session. Where: Seattle Public Library, Central Library. When: Noon to 1 p.m. Cost: Free.

THURS., JUNE 3

Jumpstart Your Career for New Grads and Those Re-entering the Workforce - This two-part seminar, hosted by career counselor Robin Ryan, will provide tips about launching a new career, finding your ideal job and nailing your next interview. A Q&A for job seekers will be held in between presentations. Where: Tacoma Public Library, Tacoma. When: Part 1, Jumpstart Your Career: 4 to 5 p.m.; Part 2: Acing the Interview: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: Free.

FRI., JUNE 4
