Job search events to get you through the 'dog days'
NWjobs
As we turn the corner into August this weekend, we officially enter summer's "dog days." While we Seattleites are blessedly free of the infernal heat and humidity that usually stifles the rest of the country this time of year, August can still be a tough month for job seekers looking to make connections with hiring managers -- nearly all of whom seem to be on vacation at the same time.
But that doesn't mean your job search can or should take a vacation. There are plenty of great employment seminars and networking events around town, some of which are listed below.
And if you still want to spend some precious time outside in Seattle's driest, sunniest month, there are hundreds of job opportunities available right now for temporary work at the Puyallup Fair. The work, which includes positions as cashiers, ride operators, food service workers, sales staff and maintenance crews, may not be a huge resume-builder, but it may help pay some bills while you keep up your job search.
From Aug. 9-30, the Puyallup Fair, in a joint effort with WorkSource of Pierce County, will be staging hiring events to fill the position before the fair opens on Sept. 10. To be eligible for hiring at the fair, you must register here first. After registering, WorkSource will send you an invitation and notify you of the dates of each hiring event.
Meanwhile, here's what's happening for the first half of August in the Puget Sound region:
