Prepare for landing: Late-summer networking events

OK, have we gotten it all out of our systems now? This wave of workplace catharsis that has rippled across the country in the days since our new 15-minute folk hero, Steve Slater, famously grabbed those beers and pulled the ejection-slide handle of his 28-year career? (As a job-search advice blogger, I'm contractually obligated to make at least one Steve Slater reference. Check.)

Like any good time, there is usually a hangover that follows. While quitting your job in a moment of frustration can feel wonderful--especially if it's analyzed by every TV network and talk show on Earth--the reality soon sets it: "What do I do now?" Well, if you're one of those who followed everyone's favorite airline steward out the door at your own crummy job in the last few days, it's time to finish those beers and start networking to rebuild that just-burned bridge.

Fortunately there are lots of Puget Sound-area social events for the rest of August, including the three-day Gnomedex 10 Conference, Aug. 19-21, providing networking opportunities in the technology and social media fields.
